Our talented Career Tech Graphic Arts students wrapped up their vibrant school year with prestigious recognition, industry insight and meaningful connections!
Students participated in the Michigan Industrial Technology and Education Society (MITES) Competition, an annual showcase of Michigan's best Career and Technical Education (CTE) student work. We're proud to announce our students earned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place honors in several Graphic Arts categories this year.

Graphic Arts also welcomed guest speakers, virtually and in the classroom, including professional tattoo artist and 2017 alum Tony Diaz, who shared industry insights and the reminder that "some days you make money, some days you make art"—a powerful reflection on balancing creativity and career.
Students met virtually with Steven Stanchfield, Animation Instructor at College for Creative Studies, gaining valuable perspective on the animation industry, creative workflows, and the many paths available within the world of digital storytelling and design.




Today, we honor Frank Treadwell for his 8 years of service as a North Ed Career Tech Construction Trades Paraprofessional.
Frank has played an instrumental role in the success of the Career Tech Construction Trades program. His dedication to supporting instruction in the classroom and the workshop sets clear expectations to guide students daily. His knowledge of the content, attention to detail and demonstrated kindness have made a positive impact on both his students and colleagues. We appreciate Frank’s contributions to his trade through his work in career and technical education.

Today, we honor Molly Straebel for her 25 years of service as a Speech Pathologist.
Molly sets the bar for professionalism and collaboration for the good of all students. She is a great role model, having a special rapport with students, parents and colleagues. Her growth mindset is reflected in the way her leadership touches school initiatives, professional development and innovative strategies. Her collaborative nature is seamless in nurturing strong relationships with staff, students and families. She is intentional in choosing activities and strategies that will most benefit the individual needs of her students. Molly’s passion and advocacy for students leaves an incredible mark on our program and services. Her whole-hearted commitment and integrity will be missed.










Today, we honor Deborah (Debby) Oliver for her 31 years of service as a North Ed Career Tech Engineering Academy Instructor.
Debby has been a driving force and catalyst for the Engineering Academy’s success since its inception. Her tireless work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement have not only defined the academy, but has set a very high standard for excellence. She has played an instrumental role in building mentoring programs and advisory boards, creating deep-rooted relationships with local manufacturing partners that provide students with unparalleled pathways to success. Deb is a consummate educator whose energy, intensity, and motivation have made every student better. We celebrate her career as a committed educator who has made a lasting impact at North Ed Career Tech.

Today, we honor Jennifer Morgenstern for her 17 years of service as a Teacher Consultant and Service Area Supervisor for Special Education.
Jennifer is dedicated to her profession and students, consistently seeking and implementing effective strategies to meet their diverse and unique needs. She generously supports and engages her colleagues in exploring innovative educational strategies. Recognized as a leader, she guides others in adapting and planning to ensure all learners are fully integrated. Jennifer collaborates with her team and local districts, always advocating to ensure that student success is the primary focus. We will miss Jennifer’s support and passion for students and families.












Today, we honor Amy Moore for her 20 years of service as a School Social Worker.
Amy has been an integral part of our community. She has a gift of making every person she encounters feel seen, heard and valued. This unwavering kindness has made her a valued and respected colleague and the ultimate collaborative team player. In a profession that can often feel overwhelming, she has been the steady hand and reliable partner her teammates always count on. Amy approaches every challenge—no matter how difficult—with profound empathy on behalf of the families and students we serve. She has been the bridge for families in need and the champion for students who needed a voice. We are deeply grateful for her kind heart and the years of hard work Amy has given to North Ed.

We are pleased to announce the new Kristen Sak Teacher Grant, established in memory of Kristin Sak, a 29 year teaching veteran, to help provide teacher assistance with purchasing classroom supplies. We will be accepting grant applications now, until June 30, 2026, to educators teaching grades 1-5 within Kalkaska Public Schools, Traverse City Area Public Schools or Elk Rapids Public Schools.
